Oktoberfest @ Saxony returns Sept. 20, 21

Fishers Oktoberfest @ Saxony, an event organized by Saxony and the Fishers Fraternal Order of Police, will celebrate German culture Sept. 20 and 21 in Witten Park.

Both days will offer authentic German food and local vendors. Options include bratwurst, potato salad, cheesecake, carrot cake, fair foods and Leinenkugel and Sun King beverages.

document 20 4 759Festivities last from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sept. 20 and include a concert featuring Big Rosco & The Hammers performing from 7 to 10 p.m.

“Big Rosco & The Hammers is a variety act,” said Candi McKinnies-Shreve, marketing manager for Saxony. “It’s from right here in Indianapolis. They do everything from classic rock, pop rock, a little bit of country.”

On Sept. 21, the event will run from 2 to 10:30 p.m. with live music by Polkamotion and Jambox throughout the day and evening. There also will be beer yoga from 2 to 2:45 p.m., a free kids zone from 2 to 6 p.m., an arts and crafts fair from 2 to 7 p.m., a cornhole tournament from 2:30 to 10 p.m., an all-ages German costume contest from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and more than 30 vendors featuring local businesses and artisans.

Proceeds benefit charities supported by the Fishers Fraternal Order of Police, such as those benefiting families of fallen officers and Shop With a Cop. Admission to Oktoberfest is free.

“We invite everybody to come down and enjoy the festivities,” McKinnies-Shreve said. “Over the last seven years, Saxony has partnered with various organizations to really make this a great community event and take it to the next level. We feel like this is a fun event that brings the community together.”
