Nickel Plate Express recently began prepping its railway cars to kick off its inaugural Reindeer Ride with the help of Gaylor Electric.

In early November, crews from Gaylor Electric placed more than 2,200 LED lights on the outside of the four Santa Fe passenger cars, the train’s F9 locomotive and the boxcar. Crews then ran tests in advance of Nickel Plate Express’ Nov. 23 lighting ceremony.

The groups began the undertaking in August, even before the historic equipment had arrived in Hamilton County. The electrical contractor utilized diagrams of the train to determine light placement, quantity and wattage.

“I am confident our illuminated train will be a gorgeous sight as it rolls through northern Hamilton County this season,” said Deanna Holt, Nickel Plate Express executive director.

The Reindeer Ride Express will run through Dec. 23. The train travels approximately one hour and 15 minutes from the station in downtown Atlanta, 105 E. Main St., to 216th Street in Noblesville and back. Tickets are available at nickelplateexpress.com.
