Preschoolers soon will see an influx of nature in their classrooms.

Westfield Washington Township and Westfield Washington Schools recently announced a collaboration project called the All Aboard Program. Since the preschool students are too young to take a field trip to MacGregor Park in Westfield, the township will bring the field trip to them.

Kristy White, director of education for the township, will visit eight All Aboard classrooms once a month during the school year to build an environmental education program aimed at exciting children about parks and nature.

White has 10 years of experience teaching preschool enrichment programs at Westfield Washington Township.

“We hope to bring nature-related themes into the All Aboard program as well as other preschool related topics,” she stated.

In the future, the township plans to include elementary-aged students in the program.

“Strong partners like Westfield Washington Township allow us to broaden our students’ educational experience beyond the classroom,” stated Marci Derado, WWS Director of Student Support Programs. “Plus, the students have really enjoyed the interactive and engaging presentations from the township staff.”
