“I’m obviously very pleased with the progress we made in 2017 and continued focus on the success of the past,” said Norman Burns, president and CEO. “It’s all to the credit of the creative, passionate and talented folks we have here at Conner Prairie and how they believe in the mission to inspire curiosity and foster learning. They do that each and every day.”

While visitors came from 46 states and 22 nations, Burns said local residents are to be thanked for the success of the past year.

“Conner Prairie is still a gem for central Indiana, but we do know the word is getting out past there,” Burns said. “At our heart, though, we are a community museum, and that’s truly why we’re successful. We believe very much in the residents here in our area, and we listen to them. That’s why we’ve made a lot of the improvements.”

Developing new, innovative programs like the Makesmith Workshop also helps the museum carry out its mission.

“As we develop new programs and new delivery systems for those programs, it’s really engaged our public, and we’re seeing that we’ve been successful as a result of it,” Burns said. “We’re really listening to our guests, and I think as a result they’re engaging with us in ways that they haven’t in the past. As we continue to look at ways to be a year-round experience, we will make improvements based on what our guests tell us.”
