New Noblesville Parks programs begin next week

The Noblesville Parks and Recreation Dept. will begin offering a variety of new programs starting Oct. 24.

Topics range from STEM, personal safety, nutrition, theater and nature and are brand new offerings from the department.

“We are excited to be adding to our inventory of programming and even more thrilled to provide further offerings as we see the community surveys come in,” Recreation Director Nichol Haberlin stated in a press release. “Our goal is to provide experience and activities that residents and families are looking for.”

New programs beginning next week include:

LEGO League

What: Lego League will focus on using challenge-based learning to encourage an interest in science and engineering by building with Lego elements. The hands-on program is meant to capture the participant’s curiosity and direct it towards improving the world around them.

Where: Forest Park Lodge (basement), 701 Cicero Rd., Noblesville.

When: For ages 6 to 8, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 26 through Nov. 16; For ages 9 to 11, 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 26 through Nov. 16.

Cost: $40/resident, $46/non-resident.

 

Understanding & Responding to Predator Behavior

What: This class is taught by current, full-time law enforcement officers, who also have years of martial arts and tactical training, whose experience gives them knowledge of how human predators behave, as well as the real-world experience to know what works in dealing with those predators. By attending, students will understand how predators select their victims, how they are able to get close enough to attack and how they use human nature against you. You will then be shown how to launch a physical response to ensure your safety.

Where: Recreation Annex at Ivy Tech Community College (Gate 18), 300 N. 17th St., Noblesville.

When: 11 a.m. to noon, Oct. 29.

Cost: $25/resident, $29/non-resident.

Musical Theater & Jazz

What: This class uses popular Broadway tunes and appropriate choreography to enhance each dancer. Great for the middle-school and young-high-school student hoping to join show choir or have a future in performing and basic acting while dancing.

Where: Ivy Tech Community College Auditorium (Gate 10), 300 N. 17th St., Noblesville.

When: For ages 6 to 10, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 24 through Nov. 21; For ages 11 to 16, 6:15 to 7 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 24 through Nov. 21. *There is no class Monday, Oct. 31 for Halloween.

Cost: $40/resident, $46/non-resident.

 

Simple Nutrition: Simple Action

What: Tired of not having enough energy to keep up with the kids or be productive at work? Confused with all the conflicting nutrition information out there? If so, this class is for you. We simplify the confusion and give you simple, actionable steps to set you up for the health and vitality you want to have. For ages 13 and older.

Where: Classroom in Ivy Tech Community College (Gate 18), 300 N. 17th St., Noblesville.

When: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 24 through Nov. 14 and Nov. 28 to Dec. 19.

Cost: $45/resident, $52/non-resident.

Power Lunch

What: Get your lunch-circuit training with a nutritionist. Locker rooms with the ability to shower are available at the facility.This program is available in 30-minute, 45-minute and one-hour sessions. For ages 15 and older.

Where: Recreation Annex in Ivy Tech Community College, 300 N. 17th St., Noblesville.

When: 30-minute class, 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 24 through Nov. 16; 45-minute class, 12:15 to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 24 through Nov. 16; one-hour class, 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 24 through Nov. 16.

Cost: 30-minute class, $35/resident and $41/non-resident; 45-minute class, $42/resident and $49/non-resident; one-hour class, $48/resident and $56/non-resident.

The parks department also is offering two nature programs for younger children. Children will play, explore and have fun studying animals and nature. Games, songs and crafts reinforce learning activities about our environment. Programs include:

Exploring Nature

Ages: 6 to 9.

When: 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 25 through Nov. 15.

Where: The Lodge at Forest Park (basement), 701 Cicero Rd., Noblesville.

Cost: $40/resident, $46/non-resident.

My First Nature Adventure

Ages: 2½ to 6.

When: 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. Fridays, Oct. 28 through Nov. 18.
