With 11 years in the Westfield Washington Schools district and multiple degrees in elementary education, special education and administration, Libby Baud was recently announced as the new assistant principal for Maple Glen and Carey Ridge elementary schools.
The previous assistant principal, splitting time between the schools, was Andy Hilton, who is now the principal of CRES, as Principal Susan Hobson retired at the end of the 2015-16 school year.
Baud spent one year as a special education teacher at Shamrock Springs Elementary School before switching to MGES for the past 10 years.
“I’m really excited to be able to serve the students and staff and families at Maple Glen and Carey Ridge and get to know the families and students I don’t already know,” Baud said. “In Westfield, especially in the elementary schools, the assistant principal works a lot with special education families and staff and supporting those meetings. Special education is a familiar area.”
Baud will spend Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at CRES, and she will spend Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons at MGES.
“Libby brings an extremely strong view of advocacy from the previous roles she’s had in our building,” said Joe Montalone, principal at MGES. “We feel very blessed to have her in this role. She will be a helping hand for all parents with both schools. She will be a steady hand for both staffs and working with them. She will be a warm hand in engaging and investing in the students of Carey Ridge and Maple Glen. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have her in this capacity.”
“I really want to learn my role and to grow as a leader,” she said. “I want to learn how to best support kids and staff and families at these buildings.”
There were more than 100 applicants for the assistant principal job.
“I feel that Libby will be a great fit because she works very hard to support every student and their families,” CRES Principal Andy Hilton stated. “She can look at the big picture and then zoom in on what is best for each student.”
