INDOT to opens new loop ramps at I-465/Keystone Avenue

The Indiana Department of Transportation will open loop ramps at the Keystone Avenue/Interstate 465 interchange on the city’s northeast side tomorrow. Motorists will have to reorient themselves to a new traffic pattern that could initially be confusing.

The old ramps will be closed.
Drivers traveling northbound on Keystone—who have accessed eastbound I-465 from the right lane and westbound I-465 from the left lane—will now enter eastbound I-465 from the left lane and westbound I-465 from the right lane.
Drivers traveling southbound on Keystone—who have accessed eastbound I-465 from the left lane and westbound I-465 from the right lane—will now enter eastbound I-465 from the right lane and westbound I-465 from the left lane.

The new westbound I-465 loop ramp—for both northbound and southbound Keystone traffic—is in the northeast quadrant of the interchange. The eastbound I-465 loop ramp—for both northbound and southbound Keystone traffic—is in the southwest quadrant.

INDOT has signage in place to alert motorists of the ramp changes.

Reith-Riley, the state’s contractor, is reconstructing the Keystone Avenue/I-465 interchange as a partial cloverleaf. When completed, the new loop ramps will allow free-flow traffic movement from northbound Keystone to westbound I-465 and southbound Keystone to eastbound I-465.

At this time, entry onto the new ramps will be on temporary pavement. After tomorrow, the old ramps will be removed—allowing crews to complete construction of the new ramps at entry points.

This $18.2 million Major Moves project is expected to be completed in the fall.
