Proceeds from Basketball Game on May 14th to provide scholarship for local High School Student

FISHERS, IN – On Saturday, May 14, the Fishers Fire Department and Police Department will honor Fishers Police Officer Leslie Hulse by holding The First Annual Hulse Memorial Cup: a charity basketball event between police officers and firefighters. This friendly event will raise funds for a scholarship to a local high school student seeking education and careers in public service and ministry, in honor of Officer Hulse. It will also support organizations dedicated to helping the victims of human trafficking, which was her passion.

“This event will bring together Fishers residents to remember a very dedicated member of its community,” said Fishers Town Manager Scott Fadness. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate Leslie Hulse’s life and provide a scholarship for a young resident that wants to follow in her footsteps.”

There will be two basketball games, one between police officers and firefighters and the other between the teachers and faculty of the Fishers High School and the Hamilton Southeastern High School.

The event will be held at the Hamilton Southeastern High School located at 13910 E 126th Street, and will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 and kids 12 and under are free. There will be food, and raffle prizes, and a raffle for cash in a half court shot. Other prizes include dinner at the firehouse with firefighters and an opportunity to get on the range with the Fishers Emergency Response Team (S.W.A.T.). Chris Proffitt from Channel 13 will Emcee the event.

Leslie Hulse was a ten year veteran of the Fishers Police Department and served as a SWAT officer. She was one of the few women in the country to serve in this capacity. Her last assignment was under the Special Investigations Division working with a Task Force out of the US Attorney’s Office in Indianapolis that focused on combating Human Trafficking. She fought her illness for three years, through numerous surgeries and treatments. All proceeds from the tournament will go to the Leslie Hulse Memorial Fund.
