Carmel — The Center for the Performing Arts announced today two choirs – Indiana Bible College and Calvary Temple of Indianapolis – have been selected to perform with Yolanda Adams on Saturday, February 19, 2011.

The gospel groups will sing two selections with Adams. The concert, Jazz Meets Gospel with Take 6 and Yolanda Adams, is part of the “Jazz Roots: A Larry Rosen Jazz Series” sponsored by Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP.

“The Center’s mission is to bring world-class performers to Central Indiana,” said Steven B. Libman, President and CEO of the Center for the Performing Arts. “Pairing local choirs with our season’s first jazz concert is exactly the type of collaboration we want to nurture and encourage. In the coming months and years we will continue to combine local performers with artists from around the world.”

During the 8 p.m. sold-out concert, the two gospel groups will sing as a combined choir. Together the choirs prepared “The Battle is the Lord” and “Victory” to perform with Adams. Dean of Music Lindel M. Anderson directs the Indiana Bible College Choir. Worship and Creative Ministries pastor Vernon Piercey directs the Calvary Temple choir.

Adams, a four-time Grammy-winner, arrives in Carmel days after her performance at the February 13, 2011 Grammy Awards. During the televised portion of the Grammy Awards, her performance paid tribute to “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin. Adams music combines elements of R&B, soul and gospel into a signature sound. Members of Take 6, also a Grammy-winning group, sing a cappella in an eclectic blend of jazz, pop and gospel.
