Arson investigation update

After a month long investigation of the Arson at Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the crime.
 
Nirmal Thakur (39 year old Indian male from Indianapolis) was located at a hotel in Greenwood and arrested on December 17, 2010.  He was arrested after a warrant was issued charging him with B felony arson.  He was transported to the Hamilton County Jail where he is being held on $70,000 bond.
 
The owner of Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli, Jasvir Singh Dosanjh (47 year old Indian male from Indianapolis) and his daughter Gugu Kaur (21 year old Indian female from Indianapolis) were arrested on Sunday, January 16th 2011 after returning from a trip outside of the United States.  They were both taken into custody at the Newark, New Jersey Airport on warrants charging them with B felony arson, B felony conspiracy to commit arson, C felony arson with intent to defraud, and C felony conspiracy to commit arson with intent to defraud.  Both subjects are being held by New Jersey Authorities pending extradition back to Indiana.  
 
 
Arson Investigation
 
On October 31, 2010 at approximately 8:45 pm, the Carmel Police and Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli located at 1400 S. Guilford Ave Ste 100.  During the investigation it was determined that someone had broken into the business and set it on fire.  Officers set up a perimeter and conducted a K-9 search of the area; however, they were unable to locate the suspect.  Based on evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe the suspect received severe burns while committing the arson.
 
The ATF (Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) was notified about this incident and are assisting with the investigation.  The damage to the business was estimated at $30,000.
